About YOPA

What is YOPA?

YOPA stands for Your Own Practice, Always. At YOPA Yoga, we believe that everyone’s connection to their yoga practice is a personal one, and our space is one in which each of our clients can feel safe to explore this connection - to their practice and to themselves.

Our beliefs are also mirrored in our logo, with the O in YOPA symbolised by a cross sectional tree trunk. A yoga practice that is worth having reaches deep beneath the outer layers both literally, and metaphorically. The trunk is also formed with the overlay of imperfect, concentric circles. These circles represent the community at YOPA - despite our imperfections we are all complete in one way or another.

How did the idea for
YOPA come about?

The founder of YOPA, Brandon, relates very personally to the concept of granting oneself the space and time to discover the significance of a yoga practice in relation to his lifestyle. He recognizes that the relevance of yoga can vary greatly among individuals - some may embrace it to alleviate physical discomfort from injuries, others to complement their passions, while some seek its meditative aspects to counterbalance the demands of their daily lives.

For him, yoga was a turning point in his personal lifeI. He started back when the pandemic was at its height, and social distancing measures were still in place. He was lucky enough to attend his first class with a teacher that, to this day, supports his journey of improving his overall wellness and fitness with no judgment, through kindness and patience. More importantly, he has cultivated a deeper sense of self-worth through believing that the union of the body and mind can accomplish astonishing things.

To him, yoga embodies a holistic odyssey, from its inception to its culmination. He emphasizes the transformative potential of precise instruction, underscored by a teacher's attentive observation, care, and guidance, which can profoundly impact one's post-class disposition, leaving him invigorated and prepared to conquer challenges.

YOPA represents the synthesis of these transformative encounters with yoga, serving as a platform to recreate and share these invaluable experiences with all who are receptive and open-minded.

What can one expect
at YOPA Yoga?

In our space, we want to empower all our clients to put aside all the things they may dislike about themselves - being plus-sized, inflexible, unfit, feeling like they’re not good enough. As much as possible, we want each person’s experience at YOPA to be one where you can achieve a better state of being and find meaning to wellness within themselves. This isn’t said enough or represented in our media adequately, but most people are actually able to access the benefits of yoga in some way or form. The team at YOPA will embody this message, and be the support for our clients to experience these benefits.

At YOPA, there will be a wide selection of regular classes and workshops, guided by a specially curated team of experienced teachers. For beginners or those relatively new to practice, most classes will be accessible, and assistance will be rendered where needed. For seasoned practitioners, you may navigate our offering to find classes that can help you bring your practice to a deeper level, all while keeping safety as a top priority. Our classes are designed to provide our clients with both depth and breadth, with something that is suitable for everyone that passes through our doors.

How is YOPA Yoga different
from any other yoga studio?

YOPA offers an experience unlike any other. Our diverse teaching team will allow any individual to find the right type of yoga practice that they need, with a wide range of classes to choose from. Our classes are appropriately categorised into Flow, Basics and Recalibrate, each offering a different selection of classes depending on the practice you are looking for - whether it is to give yourself a great stretch and muscle recovery, try out a new style of yoga (like Ashtanga, Iyengar, Chair Yoga), get the heart pumping or even find some meditative silence in our more restorative classes - there is something for everybody here.

To take it even further, we offer Semi-Private classes, which is a class setting that is much more personalised, with individual attention given by our senior teachers, with each person’s needs taken care of as they move along in their practice. Each class will have no more than seven participants. Personal adjustments will be given, and advice will be given to each individual’s alignment based on their body type. It’s both a great way to introduce yourself to the practice, and also a great way to further deepen a regular practice. It is all the benefits of a one-to-one private class, but without the limitations of a high cost investment.

Here at YOPA yoga, we take your comfort and safety very seriously. Apart from the high quality of care provided by our teachers, clients may also make use of The Calm Lounge on-site, whether it is to relax over a cup of coffee, or make use of the open space to stretch out with free-to-use yoga props like massage balls, yoga rings and straps.

Down the line, YOPA will also offer regular weekend workshops, run by both our in-house teachers as well as external trainers, offering courses that range from Teacher Trainings to Qigong Yoga, Pre & Post-Natal Yoga, Women’s Health Yoga. This regular offering will allow clients the flexibility to pick and choose when they wish to participate in our workshop programmes that will provide not just a yoga practice but more depth of knowledge and a better understanding of the bodies we live in. In doing so, it is our hope that our clients enjoy a more well-rounded experience with their yoga practice - one that is unique to each person.
